Whether you are a student, a retiree, an office professional or a stay-at-home parent, at one time or another you have had to deal with stress. For many people, stress is so common that they just accept it as a part of life. However, stress is unnecessary, and becoming stress-free and happy tends to create a more successful career as well as personal life.

Becoming stress-free can seem easier said than done. Here are some practical tips to reduce stress to implement realistic tools and activities to stop stress in its tracks:

1) Take a walk.
A simple, quick walk can help you relax and refocus your energy. Sometimes, just changing your environment can bring stress relief.

2) Meet up with a friend.
Laughing and talking to someone else can help take the edge off and relieve stress.

3) Write it down.
Putting pen to paper to let out frustration you can’t really express is a great way to let off steam.

4) Breathing exercises.
Take a few minutes and meditate. Not thinking about your stress can help it dissipate.

5) Indulge.
While you shouldn’t run to the candy drawer every time you are frazzled, sometimes treating yourself is a positive thing.

6) Listen to music.
Music is a wonderful tool to bring on relaxation and take the edge off a manic day. Create a special “stress playlist” of your favorite songs.

7) Do something mindless.
Read a book, do a crossword puzzle, clean the oven – anything to stop your mind from overworking and start de-stressing.

8) Set a daily cut off time.
Create an “end of work day” for yourself. Then, let the rest of the day be “me time”.

Make relaxation a part of your daily routine. You will eventually end up looking forward to it, and find that your stress level is greatly reduced and your health and wellness will be increased.
